After years and years of advocacy from the Langley Chamber, local governments, and local businesses, transit service is finally coming to Gloucester.

This week, the Langley Chamber was on hand for the start of new bus service to Gloucester, alongside the Translink CEO Kevin Quinn and Township Mayor Eric Woodward.

TransLink has launched the new 556 Langley Centre to Gloucester bus route, providing weekday peak-hour service between Langley Centre and the Gloucester Industrial Area.

This is a major win for Langley’s business community. Gloucester is one of Langley’s most important employment areas, home to manufacturers, logistics firms, food processors, warehouses, trades, suppliers, and other businesses that support the regional economy. But for years, a lack of transit access has made it harder for employers to recruit and retain workers, and harder for employees without access to a vehicle to get to work.

The new 556 route connects Langley Centre with Gloucester Industrial Area during peak time periods, serving 12 new bus stops in Gloucester. At Langley Centre, the route will pick up and drop off customers at Bay 1.

The route will operate Monday to Friday with service every 30 minutes during morning and afternoon peak periods:

· Toward Gloucester from 5:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.
· Toward Langley Centre from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
· Toward Gloucester from 2:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
· Toward Langley Centre from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Their input helped demonstrate the real-world impact that limited transit has on hiring, retention, business growth, and employee access. We also recognize the work of the Township of Langley and TransLink in moving this service forward.

The launch of the 556 Langley Centre to Gloucester route is a meaningful step forward, and the Chamber will continue advocating for transportation investments that better connect Langley’s employment areas, commercial districts, workers, and businesses.
