Advocacy Win: Federal Government Intervenes in Canada Post Strike, Orders Work to Resume During Continued Negotiations

Advocacy win for Langley business!

The Langley Chamber is welcoming news this morning that federal Minister of Labour Steve MacKinnon is intervening in the month-long Canada Post strike, ordering that employees resume work and extending their existing contract until May.  This "cooling off" period to allow Canada Post to operate while negotiations continued was exactly what the Langley Chamber had been advocating for directly with Minister MacKinnon's office and in our public statements to the media.

Assuming the Canada Industrial Relations Board agrees with the Minister, Canada Post services should resume next week, and a commission will be established to determine why the parties have failed to come to an agreement and how to resolve this.  This commission will report back by May 15.

Canada Post services are widely used by Langley businesses for sending and receiving payments, for shipping products to customers, and for direct mail marketing, and the Langley Chamber was a loud voice pushing for resolution to this strike, which hit during the busy and important  holiday shopping season, with direct communication with the Minister, and media on GlobalBC, CTV Vancouver, and CKNW.  Listen to one of our CKNW interviews here >
