Advocacy Win! Gloucester Transit Service Confirmed for September

The Langley Chamber is celebrating the confirmation that transit bus service is coming to the Gloucester area in north-east Langley this September.

The new route will connect Langley City to the Gloucester area, one of the region’s major employment hubs located near 264 Street and 56 Avenue in northeast Langley.

This is a major win for Gloucester businesses, employees, and the broader Langley economy. Gloucester is home to dozens of warehousing, manufacturing, logistics, and industrial operations that employ thousands of workers, but the area has never had reliable transit service. For years, access to the area has largely depended on having a vehicle.

The Langley Chamber has long advocated for transit service to employment hubs like Gloucester, where transportation access directly impacts workforce availability, business growth, and economic competitiveness. Earlier this year, the Chamber worked with Gloucester-area employers and employees to participate in TransLink’s consultation process, sharing feedback on employee numbers, shift times, commuting patterns, stop locations, safety, accessibility, and other practical needs.

That business input was critical in helping shape a service that reflects the real needs of Gloucester’s workforce and employers.

“We’re over the moon,” said Cory Redekop, CEO of the Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce. “This is transformational.”

The arrival of transit service will help unlock thousands of job opportunities for workers who may not have reliable access to a vehicle, while making it easier for Gloucester businesses to attract and retain employees in a competitive labour market.

The Langley Chamber thanks TransLink and all levels of government involved for recognizing the importance of connecting people to jobs, supporting business growth, and improving access to one of Langley’s key employment areas.

This confirmation is an important advocacy success for the Langley business community — and a significant step forward for the future of Gloucester.
