After years and years of advocacy from the Langley Chamber, local governments, and local businesses, transit service is finally coming to Gloucester.

Starting September 7, TransLink will launch the new 556 Langley Centre to Gloucester bus route, providing weekday peak-hour service between Langley Centre and the Gloucester Industrial Area.

This is a major win for Langley’s business community.

Gloucester is one of Langley’s most important employment areas, home to manufacturers, logistics firms, food processors, warehouses, trades, suppliers, and other businesses that support the regional economy. But for years, a lack of transit access has made it harder for employers to recruit and retain workers, and harder for employees without access to a vehicle to get to work.

The Chamber has consistently raised this issue with TransLink, local government, and regional partners because transportation is not just about moving people. It is about connecting workers to jobs and employers to the broader economy.

The new 556 route will connect Langley Centre with Gloucester Industrial Area during peak time periods, serving 12 new bus stops in Gloucester. At Langley Centre, the route will pick up and drop off customers at Bay 1.

The route will operate Monday to Friday with service every 30 minutes during morning and afternoon peak periods:

· Toward Gloucester from 5:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.

· Toward Langley Centre from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

· Toward Gloucester from 2:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

· Toward Langley Centre from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

This service is an important first step in improving transit access to one of Langley’s key job centres. It gives workers another option for getting to and from Gloucester, helps businesses access a far larger labour pool, and supports a more connected local economy.

The Chamber is grateful to the local businesses and partners who have continued to speak up about the need for better transit service in Gloucester. Their input helped demonstrate the real-world impact that limited transit has on hiring, retention, business growth, and employee access.

We also recognize the work of the Township of Langley and TransLink in moving this service forward.

This is exactly why advocacy matters. Improvements like this do not happen overnight. They take persistence, evidence, partnership, and a clear message from the business community about what is needed to support jobs and economic growth.

The launch of the 556 Langley Centre to Gloucester route is a meaningful step forward, and the Chamber will continue advocating for transportation investments that better connect Langley’s employment areas, commercial districts, workers, and businesses.
