Chamber Hosts South Korean Trade Delegation to Discuss Business Opportunities

The Langley Chamber hosted a visiting delegation from Gwangyang City, South Korea on October 8th to share information on Langley's key economic sectors and attractiveness as a business destination, and to discuss opportunities for trade, investment and cooperation between our two communities.

Gwangyang and Langley share many similarities, from the size of our communities and geography, to similarly hosting two local universities, having a large agricultural sector, hosting a growing industrial base, and being well-connected to transportation networks.

Gwangyang is a free economic zone, which encourages international trade and investment, and is focused on growing its logistics, manufacturing, green tech and tourism sectors.  Gwangyang is home to the largest value port in Korea, and the largest steel facility of its kind in the world, and represents 10% of Korea’s GDP.

The Chamber highlighted strengths of the Langley economy, nothing that Langley is similarly home to a strong manufacturing sector, with nearly 10% of the entire region's industrial land base here in Langley.  Our key sectors include agriculture and food processing, advanced manufacturing, tourism, automotive, healthcare and retail.  Langley also boasts access to highways, Canada’s largest port, and the USA border, and is home to nearly 90,000 workers amongst a commercial region of nearly 3 million people.

Further visits and delegations are already being considered for 2025 to build on this new relationship.
