Changes Coming to Access to Gloucester and 264th Overpass This Weekend

Changes Coming to Access to Gloucester and 264th Overpass This Weekend

Changes Coming to Access to Gloucester and 264th Overpass This Weekend

Drivers are advised to plan for heavy traffic this weekend along Highway 1 near 56th Avenue and 264th Street due to construction and lane changes related to the ongoing highway widening and replacement of the 264th overpass.

Lane closures will take place on 56th Avenue and 264th Street on the south side of the interchange from 7 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025, until 5:30 a.m. on Monday, June 16. Traffic will merge to single lanes and use single-lane-alternating traffic patterns at times.

In addition, starting as early as Friday, June 13eastbound drivers will begin using a separate new off-ramp that connects to another new intersection allowing left or right turns onto 56 Avenue. Drivers continuing to 264th Street will need to turn left onto 56th Avenue, then proceed to the intersection at 56th Avenue and 264th Street to turn left (northbound) or right (southbound).

With this change, cars and trucks going east and wanting to exit at 264 will need to do so 500 metre/ ½ kilometre earlier than they are used to.

These changes are necessary to support construction of the new 264 Street interchange and will remain in place until the new interchange is complete.

Why it matters:
Gloucester is home to over 150 businesses and over 12,000 employees as it is a critical employment hub for Langley.   Local businesses that rely on Highway 1 access for staff, customers, or shipments should be aware of these traffic shifts and adjust travel times and routing accordingly, particularly the earlier exit for 264th street on Highway 1 eastbound.

The Langley Chamber encourages members to share this update with their teams to minimize disruption.   The Chamber meets with the project team regularly to provide input into the project and get updates on changes/impacts to traffic in the area.
