City of Langley Seeks Input on Major Recreation and Cultural Facility Investments

The City of Langley is inviting residents and businesses to provide input on two major proposed investments that will shape the community’s recreation, arts, and cultural spaces for decades to come.

As part of its Invest Langley City initiative, the City is currently in the second phase of public engagement, focused on plans to expand the Al Anderson Memorial Pool and redevelop the Timms Community Centre alongside a new Performing Arts and Cultural Centre. These projects have been long discussed in the community and are now moving toward more detailed concepts, cost estimates, and potential funding approaches.

Community members are being asked to review updated project information—including proposed amenities, estimated costs, and potential tax implications—and provide feedback on whether these projects should move forward, and how they could be funded. The project costs are estimated at $73 million for an expanded Al Anderson Memorial Pool and $107 million for an expanded Timms Community Centre combined with a Performing Arts and Cultural Centre.

For the business community, these types of investments play an important role in enhancing the overall appeal of Langley City as a place to live, work, and visit. At the same time, the scale of these projects and their potential tax impacts make it critical that businesses understand the proposals and have an opportunity to share their perspectives.  If both proposed projects move forward, the City anticipates borrowing $60 million for both projects per year over three years, repaying this loan over a term of 30 years. This could result in increased taxes of $104 per year fr multifamily properties and $244 for single family properties, and likely significantly more for business properties.

The City is hosting an online information session on April 29 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and is encouraging participation in an online survey open until May 1, 2026.  More info >

The Langley Chamber encourages members to review the information and provide feedback to help ensure that future investments reflect the needs and priorities of the broader community, including local businesses.
