Fighting to Save Langley Business Money - Increasing the Employer Health Tax Deductions

The Employer Health Tax generates over $2 billion every year by taxing businesses on their total payroll.  And we've been fighting this tax since 2019. 

But in a time of inflation and increasing labour costs, more and more small businesses are being hit by the tax for the first time, or are seeing their tax burden increase. That's why the Langley Chamber has been advocating over the past several months for the exemption threshold to be increased, allowing more small businesses to be exempt from the tax. 

Back in the summer, during provincial budget consultations, we argued the time was right to increase the EHT threshold, a recommendation included in the Legislature's own pre-budget report.  (Read more)    

And with the appointment of a new Finance Minister last month, the Langley Chamber has again engaged directly with her to push for the exemption to be increased in the upcoming 2023 Budget.  (Read our letter

On January 25, the BC Green Party endorsed this call to increase the EHT thresholds, and with this momentum the Langley Chamber will continue to push for this important tax savings for our members!
