Langley Chamber Calls for New Langley Riding and 3 MLAs
The Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce is the advocate and voice for local businesses on the issues impacting our community – but to do that, we need adequate representation from the provincial government. That’s why the GLCC is calling for a third Langley riding and a third MLA when the province’s electoral boundaries are redrawn later this year by the BC Election Boundaries Commission.
Langley is now the fastest-growing community in the region, and as a result, every single Langley resident finds themselves now in a riding that is under-represented based on the population size.
In addition, our Aldergrove community is currently split in two and mixed in with two Abbotsford ridings, which does a disservice to residents and businesses in those areas. Both of those ridings are made up predominantly of Abbotsford residents, which makes attention to and understanding of the concerns of Langley constituents more difficult for those elected representatives and further exacerbates the lack of representation already faced by these constituents from the over-population of the ridings in the first place.
Langley deserves to have our voice and our concerns heard loudly in Victoria, and that is why the Langley chamber is calling clearly for three Langley ridings, all of which should be contained entirely within the bounds of the Township of Langley and the City of Langley.
The Langley Chamber is making both formal written submission and appearing live in front of the BC Electoral Boundaries Commission to advocate for this, and we encourage our members to make their own submissions calling for 3 Langley ridings. Businesses and residents can write to the Commission by email at info@bcebc.ca or can make an online submission by clicking here.
