Langley Chamber Joins Ground Breaking for Glover Road Replacement, Highway Widening
The Langley Chamber is applauding the first step in construction for the Highway 1 widening project, which was announced today at a ground breaking ceremony for the replacement of the Glover Road overpass.
The Langley Chamber joined Transportation Minister Rob Fleming, MLA Megan Dykeman, MP John Aldag, Mayor Eric Woodward, and members of Langley Township Council for the announcement at the Glover Road overpass.
The replacement of the Glover Road crossing is one component of the plan to widen Highway 1 from 216th Street to 264th Street, a project the Langley Chamber strongly supports as integral to the efficient movement of people, goods and services through Langley and the region.
The Langley Chamber also supports the widening of the highway from 264th through to Whatcom Road, the replacement of the 264th overpass, and the expansion of transit service to the Gloucester district.
Completion of the Glover Road crossing is anticipated in summer 2024. The other elements of the widening project are expected to be tendered this winter, with work starting by spring 2023. This includes replacement of the existing railway crossing just east of Glover Road, the replacement of the 232nd Street interchange and widening Highway 1 from 216th to 264th to add an extra lane in each direction.
