Langley Chamber Statement on Bus Strike
Langley Chamber Statement on Bus Strike

This week's transit strike illustrated how critical the transit system is to moving people throughout our region, and underscores why transit is a business issue. The two-day strike on Monday and Tuesday meant employees couldn't get to work, customers and clients couldn't patronize businesses, and those who use the roads were faced with increased congestion and traffic.
The Langley Chamber is encouraged that the Province has appointed negotiator Vince Ready as a "special mediator", who will have until February 2 to issue recommendations and for the two parties to determine if they will accept the terms. The Langley Chamber is urging all parties involved -- the union, the employer, and the Province -- to ensure a deal is reached by February 2 and our region's transit system is not subject to further disruption.
In a survey of Chamber members, just over half of businesses reported being directly negatively impacted by the 2-day strike, and 84% want to see further action taken by the government -- such as Ready's appointment -- to bring the dispute to a close.
The Langley Chamber reminds members that several Langley bus routes were unaffected by the strike and were still operating, and we encourage employers to share these with their employees to support them in getting to work in case they can utilize one of these routes in the case of future disruptions:
370 Cloverdale / Willowbrook
372 Clayton Heights / Langley Centre
560 Murrayville / Langley Centre
561 Langley Centre / Brookswood
562 Langley Centre / Walnut Grove
563 Langley Centre / Fernridge
564 Langley Ctr / Willowbrook
