Langley Chamber Supporting Youth Career Development and Labour Force Attachment with new Reboot Plus Program
In an effort to support youth career development and underpin the local labour force, an innovative program is expanding in Langley thanks to a partnership between the Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce, Douglas College, and PEERs Employment and Education Resources.
The Reboot Plus Program helps youth at risk of not graduating to find and explore career paths and positive options for their future through specialized training, coaching, and connections with the local business community.
As part of the program, youth are connected with local professionals for informational interviews to help them explore different sectors and career options. These connections between the youth and professionals and employers will help them to identify their own goals, and then formulate career and education plans which will help them achieve them.
“Our business community is facing a decade or more of persistent labour shortages, so anything we can do to help our youth make in-roads into the local labour market is a positive for us,” says Cory Redekop, CEO of the Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce. “But not only will this program help our economy in the long-run, it will also be a very meaningful way for local professionals to support and give back to our community and the next generation of businesspeople.
The Langley Chamber is seeking professionals and business owners who would be willing to offer their time for 30-60 minute informational interviews to help provide these youth with ideas, inspiration and information about possible career options. Youth participants obtain an understanding of their careers of interest and the world of work, build confidence speaking to professionals, and begin to develop a network. -- all things which will help them become successful parts of our future workforce!
