The Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce has submitted a letter of support for FortisBC’s proposed Tilbury Phase 2 LNG Expansion Project, recommending that the project receive its environmental assessment certificate and proceed through the remaining approvals without unnecessary delay.

The Chamber supports Tilbury Phase 2 because it represents the type of major private-sector investment British Columbia needs to approve and build. The project is expected to create more than 1,000 direct full-time jobs during construction, support up to 165 direct permanent positions once operational, contribute $1.7 billion to BC’s GDP during construction, and generate significant tax revenue.

For the Langley Chamber, the local supply-chain opportunity is especially important. Major infrastructure projects create business activity well beyond the project site. They generate work for construction companies, skilled trades, manufacturers, engineering firms, equipment suppliers, logistics providers, professional-service firms, and many other businesses across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.

The Chamber has also reviewed the proposed environmental assessment certificate, which includes 18 detailed conditions addressing areas such as emissions and air quality, water and stormwater management, environmental monitoring, First Nations engagement, community accountability, local hiring and procurement, public reporting, and compliance oversight. In our view, these conditions are rigorous and provide a strong framework for monitoring the project’s performance and mitigating potential impacts.

The Environmental Assessment Office is currently accepting public feedback on the draft assessment report and draft environmental assessment certificate for the project.

The Chamber encourages members to review the project information and consider submitting feedback, particularly businesses that may benefit from or contribute to the construction, supply-chain, professional-service, logistics, or industrial opportunities connected to a major project of this scale.
