Langley Chamber Welcomes Reopening of 208th Street

The Langley Chamber is welcoming the reopening of 208th street to northbound traffic following a two-and-a-half month closure for construction as part of the 208th widening project, several months earlier than the original March 2024 scheduled date.

Following feedback and concerns from local businesses, the Langley Chamber engaged with Mayor and Council and with the Township project team, to advocate for the reopening of the northbound lane.  While the Langley Chamber supports the widening of 208th as a critical infrastructure project to facilitate the movement of goods, services and people, the northbound closure was having significantly negative impacts on businesses along 208th who were seeing significant declines in customer traffic, as well as businesses along 64th and 65th avenue who were often experiencing gridlock due to the road detour.

As early as Thursday, November 16, 208th avenue will resume two-way traffic between 65th and 68th.

The Langley Chamber thanks Mayor and Council, as well as Township staff and the contractor, for being open and responsive to this issue and its impacts on Langley businesses.
