Langley’s Workforce Future: Building Bridges Between Newcomer Talent and Local Employers

The Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Langley Local Immigration Partnership (LLIP), recently completed a powerful six-part event series designed to foster connection, collaboration, and conversation between newcomer professionals and Langley’s employer community.
Titled Langley’s Workforce Future, the series was developed to address a growing need: helping local businesses tap into the talent and potential of trained immigrants and newcomers already living in the Langley region. With labour shortages continuing across sectors, and skilled professionals seeking meaningful local opportunities, this initiative created a space to bridge the gap. Each event brought together local professionals and business owners from a wide range of industries — including healthcare, construction, technology, finance, manufacturing, and education — with newcomers who had backgrounds and training in those very same sectors. The events created a unique space where shared expertise and experience could form the basis of new connections, mentorship opportunities, and hiring possibilities.
Through informal networking, facilitated introductions, and guided discussion, participants were able to explore common challenges, better understand each other’s perspectives, and build relationships that may not have otherwise occurred in traditional hiring settings.
Feedback from participants was very positive, with several noting new business relationships, a renewed sense of optimism about Canada, and even some individuals finding employment as a direct result of the connections and referrals made through the sessions. By the end of the series, dozens of meaningful connections had been made, and both newcomers and employers left with new perspectives and possibilities.
As we look to the future of Langley’s workforce, this initiative serves as a model of what’s possible when community collaboration meets practical action. The Langley Chamber is proud to have worked alongside LLIP to deliver this impactful series, and we remain committed to supporting both business growth and newcomer integration.
