New Parking Strategy for Downtown Langley - Open House February 12

The City is developing a new strategy will guide how public parking is planned and managed, with the goal of ensuring reliable access to parking while balancing the needs of businesses, employees, residents, and visitors. The City of Langley is inviting feedback from businesses, employees, residents, and visitors as it develops a Public Parking Strategy focused on Downtown Langley City.

As the downtown core continues to grow and evolve, parking management is becoming an increasingly important issue for businesses and customers alike. And once the SkyTrain opens, it will be critical to ensure that parking for businesses is not used up by commuter parking.

The Chamber has already participated in several consultations with the City on this plan, ensuring the needs and input of members in the affected areas are included, and speaking to the importance of parking for small businesses.

For many businesses, convenient and predictable parking is essential for customer access, employee commuting, and overall economic activity in the downtown area.

The New Strategy

You can review the proposed strategy here >

The proposed Downtown Public Parking Strategy includes several changes aimed at improving parking availability and turnover in Langley City’s downtown core. Proposed actions include:

  • prioritizing short-term on-street parking for customers
  • creating longer-term parking areas in off-street lots
  • introducing employee parking permits in designated lots
  • potentially implementing paid parking in high-demand areas.
The strategy also explores improved signage, technology to help drivers find available parking, and updated enforcement tools to better manage parking supply as downtown continues to grow.
