President Trump Pauses Broad-Based Tariffs on Canada Until April 2

Today, President Trump announced a pause on the 25% tariffs on Canadian goods and 10% tariffs on Canadian energy exports to the US until April 2, for goods that are "compliant" with the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).   The full details of this postponement have not yet been released, and the status of Canada's retaliatory tariff and non-tariff measures remain to be clarified by Canada's federal and provincial governments.   The 25% tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports, including from Canada, are still scheduled for March 12.

"This is the latest in a series of fits and starts that has created business uncertainty, stifled economic investment, and roiled international stock markets.  We urge our federal leaders to keep pushing for a solution, once-and-for-all, that removes tariffs and importantly the threat of tariffs, on Canadian businesses." - Cory Redekop, CEO, Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce
