US Imposes Steel and Aluminum Tariffs

Today, March 12, the US’ planned tariffs of 25% on steel and aluminum went into effect.  Notably, the scope of products covered is substantially larger than the steel and aluminum tariffs from 2018. Exports which were not impacted by US tariffs in 2018 may now be impacted.   We have the list of items that are included in our Tariff Toolkit, along with a Tariff Finder tool which you can use to decipher what the various HS codes refer to.

Canada has announced that tomorrow it will retaliate with more tariffs on nearly $30 billion worth of American steel, aluminum, and other imports into Canada.  This is in addition to the broad list of American goods being tariffed now, and the larger list of imports set to be tariffed on April 2nd.  The full list of those tariffed imports is here >

These tariffs will make building and manufacturing more expensive for Americans, and has deepened an already counter-productive trade war.   The Langley Chamber is encouraging government to find a way to the bargaining table to identify what will bring this misadventure with tariffs to a close.
