Documentary Screening of NFB film, Payback, based on Margaret Atwood’s book and 2008 Massey Lecture Series, Payback: Debt and the Shadow Side of Wealth
and A conversation with Margaret Atwood, Canada’s pre-eminent and internationally renowned author and one of Canada’s finest minds.
Ms. Atwood will speak to and with our audience after the screening and refreshment break in her favorite kind of speaking engagement, one in which she is able to talk with small audiences in an intimate setting.
Sheryl MacKay, host of CBC Radio One’s early morning weekend show, North by Northwest, will the evening’s MC and moderator of the Q&A portion of the event.
UBC’s Dr. William Rees will open the event with a keynote talk on our debt to the environment. Dr. Rees, a participant in film Payback, is best known in ecological economics as the originator and co-developer of ‘ecological footprint analysis,’
which has arguably become the world’s most familiar sustainability indicator.
