The Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce is pleased to host our first virtual Dinner Meeting on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.

During this virtual experience, you can expect structured networking with business professionals, a delicious takeout meal from one of the many amazing local restaurants and an important presentation from Jeremy Stone, Director of the Community Economic Development program at Simon Fraser University. Community Economic Resilience: Managing Disruptions to Community Well-Being

The economy is not just a machine for wealth, it is the system by which we meet our daily needs. When we experience economic disruptions, communities lose basic livelihood functions and key people that contribute to our overall physical and social well-being. This seminar focuses on strategies for maintaining business and economic health during economic downturns, natural disasters, and disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic. Although disruptions cannot be avoided, their impacts can be lessened through planning and preparation. 

Learning Outcomes:

• A framework for a "community approach" to economic resilience. 
• Basic strategies for municipalities to protect their local economies.
• Recommendations for businesses and neighborhoods to be prepared for economic disruption.
• Models of economic resilience planning from other jurisdictions in BC.
