Accessing Langley's Local Immigrant Talent Pool
Over the last decade the immigrant population of the City and Township of Langley has grown significantly. According to Census 2016 data, the Township had the highest immigrant population growth rate in BC at 21.5%; the City had the 5th highest at 15.5%.
In 2021, 365 newcomers responded to the Langley LIP’s local immigrant survey.
These individuals listed 98 different occupation pre-arrival. After arrival only 48% were employed or self-employed with only 19% employed in their field. Although local data is not yet available, research conducted nationally reports new immigrants and racialized individuals were more impacted by the pandemic than longer term residents.
