Langley Chamber Business Update - Flood Alert Issued

Langley Chamber Business Update - Flood Alert Issued

Due to rising water levels on the Fraser River and the potential for flooding, an evacuation alert (warning) has been issued for parts of northern Langley.

At this time, this is just a warning and is NOT an order to actually leave or evacuate.  However, residents and businesses in the affected areas should be ready to do so at short notice, and those in nearby areas should prepare should conditions worsen unexpectedly.

The Langley Chamber has been in contact with the Township of Langley and will continue to monitor the situation and bring our members any further updates.

For the latest information, visit the Township of Langley's flood page.

Preparing for Flooding

Making Plans

For businesses and commercial operations, consider plans to move equipment or inventory off-site, prepare for potential disruption of your access to sites, and plan for possibly needing staff to work remotely should your premises be inaccessible or damaged.

For residents, have a plan in place which includes arranging to stay with family or friends, having emergency kits packed with clothes, medication and other necessities, ensuring a meeting place has been established if families are not together and making provision for pets and livestock.  Curious about what to include in an emergency kit? Click here for a checklist.

Sandbagging

Sand is available at the Township of Langley Operations Centre at 4700 - 224 Street (map), 24 hours a day. Sandbags are available during regular business hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm. Please bring your own shovel to load your sand.

Reporting Flooding

If you see pooling of water or flooding on the street, call the Township’s Engineering Division at 604-532-7300 between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm. For after-hours flooding emergencies, call 604-543-6722.

Staying Safe

During floods and high water events, rivers and streams which may normally be safe could be hazardous. Remain vigilant and be cautious near the Fraser River and other fast-moving water as both the watercourse and the banks/sides may be unsafe.
